Diagnostic

Histopathology is the science used to analyse a biopsy or any tissue removed at operation.

This is necessary to check the exact type of disease that an individual may have, the potential for treatment and / or to confirm that the operation performed has been a success.

Our laboratory specialises in all clinical biopsies and surgical samples as well as providing a centre for coordinating any additional tests required for complex cases or 2nd opinions.

Surgical resections from gynaecological, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and head and neck operations are dissected and reported by specialist histopathologists.

An intra-operative (frozen section) service may be considered in cases where a lesion is being excised, and subsequent reconstruction depends on knowledge of whether the margins are tumour free.

We also work with Haematologists, Haemato-oncologists, clinical / radiation oncologists to diagnose diseases of the blood, bone marrow and lympho-reticular organs, lymphomas and blood cancers.

Haematopathology specialises in the diagnosis of diseases of the lymph node, spleen, bone marrow which includes the diagnosis and work up of lymphomas and leukaemias. This is highly specialised clinical work which involves a lot of specialist testing including immunohistochemistry, ISH, FISH, flow cytometry and molecular diagnostics (PCR, clonality and NGS). Our specialist team provide integrated diagnostic reports for Haematologic malignancies.
